How Refi Autopilot Was Born

As a Loan Officer (LO), I specialized in VA loans—a perfect fit for a former Naval Aviator. But before the seasoning rule changes of 2018, other lenders were aggressively trying to refinance my clients within weeks of the loan closing.

So, how do you keep a client—one who is eager to lower their payment—loyal? Both avoiding an EPO and actually refinancing when it made sense. My solution was proactive and consistent transparency: I told my clients exactly what I could actually offer them every month, even if refinancing didn't make sense.

Most months, the majority of my clients didn't make sense to refinance. No problem. They'd simply delete the email. However, I’d proactively scratched their “can I refi” itch and in the process reinforced their trust in me compared to all the suspicious marketing they’d get from strangers.

The first result was that EPOs virtually disappeared. The bigger result was when rates dropped - my pipeline exploded!

The consistent updates had built the clients' anticipation, and since the numbers were real, the sales process was practically complete. All I had to do was respond to the “YES, lock me in!” messages I’d get. Gone were the days of chasing clients, only to hear the dreaded "I already refinanced" or "I'm already talking to , can you beat %?"

My first refi boom was in 2012. In one day, I originated more loans than I had in the previous six months combined. Over the next eight years, I refined my tool to be smarter and smarter, saving my client’s massive money in the process. Ultimately, this success allowed me to retire from originating in 2020 and move to a five star resort in Puerto Rico.

Now, I'm making Refi Autopilot available for every LO so they too can take care of their clients, achieving loyalty for repeat business, massively boost their production, and doing it all without sacrificing their precious time.
